With Christmas only days away festivals are in full swing throughout Italy. Sunday I sent my husband Gregg to Fornoli for the Festa dell Briciole, or Festival of Crumbs. Gregg arrived a few hours into the event under very cloudy skies and a cold light mist.
Vendors set up tents in Fornoli’s Piazza Aldo Moro. Gregg wasted no time and headed for the bar tent first, sampling the Vin Brule (a hot spiced red wine).
With traditional Christmas carols playing on the loudspeaker, children set up old fashioned board games and games of chance.
One tent offered a wide assortment of breads, including the traditional farro bread.
Then the man of the hour, Santa, arrived in unique fashion. He rode up on a Segue decorated as a reindeer.
Gregg promised Santa he had been a good boy this year and I have to agree!
And no Christmas festival would be complete without Christmas themed ornaments and household decor for sale.
I look forward to joining Gregg in Italy next week. A big thank you to Gregg for snapping these photos of the Festa della Briciole and to our friends for keeping him company until I arrive on Saturday!
